What is the Digital Divide?

As technology is rapidly advancing, the need for technology is also getting in higher demand. Increased demand also means our resources are getting stretched, and a larger group of people do not have access to the technology that is needed for daily use. The pandemic unfortunately has deepened that divide between those who have access to the internet and tech devices and those who don’t. It may seem as though the digital divide only pertains to the lack of owning technological devices for some people, but there are actually different aspects to the digital divide. According to Dr. Jakob Nielsen, there are three aspects to the digital divide (Digital Divide: The 3 Stages):

  • Economic Divide

  • Usability Divide

  • Empowerment Divide.

How Do We Plan To Help?

As of now, our main concern is that as technology is rapidly advancing, older generations may be feeling difficulty in trying to keep up with all the changes. Our hope is to provide help to senior citizens in using technology and learning to navigate through different technological devices and applications independently. Eventually, the end goal is that everyone has equal usability skills and there is no gap between younger and older generations.

Of course, we are not assuming that every elderly person is not 100% confident in using technology. For the people who need support, YourTechQ will help them to learn how to apply the use of technology in their everyday lives. Their newfound skills would allow them to stay up-to-date with rapidly changing technology.
